Frequently Asked Questions

What is coaching?

Coaching is a confidential, open, honest and dynamic dialogue between the coach and client. During that dialogue, the coach helps the client identify what is really important to them, what might be missing from their lives or careers, or what they may want more of, and then helps them identify action steps and goals which will help them achieve exactly what they want. The coach is there to support the agenda and needs of the client. The dialogue which takes place includes empowering questions, deep listening and a very open mind and heart on the part of the coach. The client agrees to be open and honest as well, and to be willing to search deeply into their souls to seek their truths.

Why do I need a coach?

You may not need a coach at all! If you are already experiencing everything you want from life and are perfectly content with things as they are, then perhaps you don't need a coach. But even superstar athletes such as Tiger Woods and Tom Brady have coaches. Why? Not because they necessarily need a lot of help with their game, but because a coach provides invaluable objective feedback about how the game is going so that the next game can be even better. Objective eyes, an open mind and honest feedback are what coaches provide, along with tools to help you remove whatever blocks you may be experiencing, and if you have the desire for that kind of support in your life, then you just might want a coach.

How can a coach help me?

A coach can help you identify what you really want out of life or your career and why what you currently have is not what you really want or isn't enough. A coach can help you recognize the blocks that are getting in they way of your happiness and success. A coach can support you when the going gets tough. A coach can and will give you feedback so you can make the adjustments in your game that will keep you on target.

What is a session like?

Coaching sessions generally take place by telephone. For corporate coaching clients, face to face meetings can be arranged. Individual sessions last 30 minutes and take place once per week, three times per month. Then we rest and process. In a typical session, you've already set the agenda before we meet. We might review how you've been since the last session and talk about any successes or challenges you faced. The most important part of the session is talking about where you want to grow next and figuring out together what steps you need to take to make that growth happen. I might ask you to identify an action step to help you move forward, or I might suggest one for you. You are always free to accept, decline or counteroffer.

What do I do during the week?

That depends on how we set up our agreement in the beginning. Many people like having assignments or tasks (I like to call them action steps) for which they can be held accountable. For other people, that feels too restrictive. Generally speaking, the more motivated you are to identify and set your own action step between sessions, the more quickly you will feel your progress.

What if I need help during the week?

I offer unlimited email access to my clients between sessions. And I love receiving brief phone calls to celebrate successes!

Will you offer me advice on how to deal with my boss/spouse/friend?

The coaching process is based on the assumption that the client has all the answers. So, no, I will not be offering you any advice. You probably have many friends and family who are eager to do that already. I will, however, be asking you many questions about your situation, how you feel about it, and what you might like to change and why. After those questions, you will probably know what to do about your boss/spouse/friend without me having to say a word.

How long does coaching last?

Coaching lasts as long as you feel you are getting value. Although there is an initial term commitment, I offer a guarantee that if during that time you feel you are not getting value, you can stop at any time, and all unused portions of your initial investment will be refunded to you.

What does your logo mean?

When I chose my logo, it reminded me of something specific that I really liked for the mood and meaning behind my business. However, I have found that many people have an entirely different idea of what it means that is also right in line with the mood and meaning of my business. I would love to hear your ideas about what my logo means. Please feel free to drop me an email and let me know your thoughts!
