Energy Shifting

iPEC's Core Energy Coaching is unique in that coaches are trained to shift client energy from catabolic to anabolic, that is, from destructive to constructive. This transformational process is empowering and grounding, exciting and centering. As we move from a place of negative, destructive energy to a place of powerful, positive, constructive energy, we feel our passion reignite and our ability to persevere strengthens. Our senses become tuned to possibilities and opportunities where before they may have been stuck in apathy or despair.

Examples

Some typical areas where people become locked into catabolic energy are debt, weight loss and relationships. Here are some brief examples of how a Core Energy Coach can help a client shift to anabolic energy around these three areas. These are only examples, and the way in which your situation would be addressed in similar situations would vary with your personal details and needs.

Debt

Client Smith is desperate about the amount of debt he has accumulated over the past few years. He feels trapped in his job in order to pay his bills, worried about how to make ends meet from month to month, and procrastinates paying his bills as long as he can because he cannot bear the strain of facing the reality of his situation. As his coach, I invite him to consider where he would like to be and how that would feel. He says he would like to be debt free and this would feel empowering, liberating and confident. Asking him to tap into those feelings now, I encourage him to consider what he would be doing differently with his current situation if he were already feeling empowered, liberated and confident. He says he would be working from a budget, paying his bills early and considering additional sources of income so he could retire his debt earlier. We set an action step for him to research various budget styles and time he could set aside in the next few weeks to begin to formulate a realistic budget. His energy is now positive and creative and he is thinking in terms of possibilities.

Weight Loss

Client Jones has been trying to lose weight for years with no success. After her first child, she never quite lost the weight she gained during pregnancy and a subsequent pregnancy only added to the scale. She feels unattractive, depressed and angry at herself. She admits to sneaking "bad" food late at night and at work to "get back" at herself for her lack of success. As her coach, I invite her to consider what opportunity exists for her in her current situation. At first she sees none, but with patience and persistence, she finally begins to acknowledge that there is the opportunity for her to really love herself as she is and to be kind to her body. We set an action step for her to find a way every day to practice extreme self care, and she expresses some initial resistance, but after several weeks, she is basking in bubble baths, delicious but healthy snacks at regular intervals during the day, and a weekly massage. She also decides to purge her wardrobe of anything which does not make her feel great. Her energy is now self loving and nurturing and positive and she is experiencing herself with new awareness.

Relationships

Client Reed has just finalized a divorce. After only five years of marriage and with several unsuccessful relationships behind him, he wonders if he is capable of ever finding a woman he can share his life with successfully. He is feeling rejected, dejected and hopeless. As his coach, I invite him to develop an ideal partner vision. He reluctantly agrees to this exercise, understandably. As he begins to define his ideal partner with growing clarity, however, he begins to feel hope and excitement return again. He also realizes that in order to attract this ideal woman, there are some changes he will need to make himself. We set an action step for him to begin to identify the areas where his ideal partner would require a change in him and how he would like to begin addressing those changes. He now has an action plan for personal development for several months. He feels motivated, excited, and sees a lot of possibility for his own personal growth and development. His energy is now positive and growth oriented.

Corporate Energy

In the corporate arena some common examples are promotions, team energy and performance reviews.

Promotions

Client Johnson has just been promoted to manager. She is excited about the promotion, but she feels overwhelmed by the new responsibility and she is afraid she will fail, making herself and her boss look bad. She is stressed, overworked, and on edge a lot of the time in her position, and she feels she has no one to go to for help. As her coach, I invite her to identify all the negative self talk she has going on, and where it originates. I observe that her boss clearly has faith in her abilities and she agrees. Together we explore some strategies for dealing with negative self talk and develop some affirmations and visualizations. She also decides that she needs regular time during the day to gather her thoughts and plans a half hour walk during her lunch hour to relieve stress and allow some creative thinking. Her energy is now positive and creative, and she feels capable, confident and eager.

Team Energy

Client Thompson heads up a group of five software engineers. Every time they hold a team meeting, one of the team members shoots down new ideas and generally brings critical and negative energy to the table. Thomas feels frustrated, angry and helpless. He doesn't want to embarrass or confront his report-to, but he needs the team to be more productive. As his coach, I invite him to brainstorm ways in which he can address the situation with the negative team player. After some really wild ideas, it suddenly dawns on him that this employee has not yet "bought in" to the team objectives and he realizes that he needs to invite this person to share their ideas first to obtain that buy-in. We set an action step for him to restructure his team meetings so he can address the buy-in right up front at the very next meeting. His energy is now positive and filled with possibilities.

Performance Reviews

Client Matthews has just received her performance review and it was not what she was expecting. She really thought she was doing a better job than her review suggests. She feels angry and defensive as she begins to talk about finding another job where they will appreciate her work. As her coach, I invite her to share what is deeper than the angry and defensiveness and up comes the fear that she will never get ahead or perhaps even be fired. She also confesses that she has never truly felt appreciated in any job where she has worked. I invite her to take a step back and view the review as feedback instead of criticism and ask her how that might change her response. After some struggle with this idea, she is able to see that there is some truth to the content of the review. She is able to view her supervisor as someone who wishes her to succeed and is showing her how. We work through the review together, looking for clues as to how she can make more of her job and feel more successful. We set an action step based on what we find in the review for the next six weeks. Her energy is positive and creative and she is feeling motivated, excited and empowered.
